Writing A Gratitude Diary

I started writing a gratitude diary only about 8 months ago. Frankly, I have not been doing it seven days a week but have gradually incorporated it more and more into my daily routine. Initially, I would just do it when I wasn’t having a good day to make me feel more positive. I can tell you the more I do it, the more I like it. Keeping a gratitude diary really takes no time at all and it’s lovely to have a physical piece of positive thoughts and scribbling to look back on. My gratitude diary has worked as a pretty instant mood lifter and a way to a happier me.

A gratitude diary can be an instant way to a happier you.

The reason I started this gratitude diary is because I wanted to be more present, feel more balanced and less affected by day-to-day stress. I’d really recommend it if this sounds familiar to you. This little practice has made me feel more mindful. With the general madness that comes hand in hand with the working mum balancing act, I find it of great benefit to find a moment of quiet on a regular basis to recognise one good thing that happened or one thing I feel grateful for.

I usually write about my day. It could be something very basic like that cup of tea that I got to drink whilst it was still warm… or the goodnight kiss I give my children and my husband every night. Some days, I could write something very emotional, and other days it could be something more trivial such as how much I like the shoes I wore, and that’s okay too!

I’m sure if Alex could write a gratitude diary from the day we took these photos, the list would include a morning treat hunt, cheeky giggles with his sis and a cherry lollipop!

Do you write a gratitude diary? Do you write something down physically or do you prefer your phone or computer?
